Many of the products purchased today come from some of the world’s poorest countries. Fair Trade seeks to ensure that the hard working people behind these products get a fair deal.
Fair Trade supports the cooperative system where farmers and artisans that provide similar products work together to share ideas and common goals.
Fair Trade encourages and rewards farming and production practices that are environmentally friendly and sustainable.
Cooperatives work together to develop skills and training that are required to compete in the international marketplace.
Environmentally Friendly
- Protection of the environment, in which growers work and live, is an essential part of the Fair Trade standard.
- Producers must develop, carry out and monitor an operations plan for their farming techniques.
- Workers must follow national and international standards for the handling of chemicals, including a list of those which must never be used.
